Aspects of Evan

A tribute to Evan from Monty Dart and Will Cross

“Aspects of Evan” is a literary tribute to Hon. Evan Morgan,  1893-1949, socialite, poet,  and aristocratic, the last Viscount Tredegar, of Tredegar House, Newport, South Wales, and Honeywood House, Rowhook, near Dorking, Surrey.

The script was first compiled for and presented to the AGM of Newport and Gwent Literary Club on 29 April 2009 and later delivered to the AGM of Friends of Tredegar House on 26 November 2009.

The work comprises a 12 minute film on Evan’s life, made by Tom Dart, including unique footage of Evan’s burial place at Buckfast Abbey. A duologue then follows of 45 minutes, from Monty Dart and Will Cross,  with a well illustrated  Powerpoint presentation reflecting on how Evan is recalled by his family, literary contemporaries and personal contacts.   The work also draws on Evan’s own poetry, with the discovery of several pieces that are not included in Evan’s published series of poems, or anthologies. A detailed sources and reading list is available to anyone with a serious interest in Evan or literary figures of the 1920s-1940s.

Monty Dart and Will Cross are a writing partnership known as Dartford Crossing, see web link below.

They are the joint authors of “ Poor Gwyneth”  a full length biography of Hon. Gwyneth Ericka Morgan, 1895-1924,  only sister of Hon Evan Morgan.  Part of their four- year research for   “ Poor Gwyneth”   involved visiting Rome, Italy, where Evan was exiled after the mysterious disappearance of Gwyneth from a house in Wimbledon on 11 December 1924. Her mangled body was later dragged from the River Thames on 20 May 1925.

This research includes the results of  visiting Beda College and the Vatican Secret Archives in Rome in May 2009.
